Netherlands - introduction

The Netherlands, or Holland as it is sometimes known in English, is a land of windmills, clogs, tulips and a tolerant open minded people that attracts many visitors every year to explore the cultural and liberal cities, cycle though the flat in lands and soak up the rich culture and heritage. The Kingdom borders Belgium and Germany and whilst faced out onto the North Sea into which its ships set sale as its Merchants conquered parts of the globe many centuries ago. The country lies low on the land reclaimed from the sea via a complicated system of dykes, and though it was subject to many floods in the past, it now seems to have mastered control of the elements, global warming permitting. You will find the Dutch amazingly open to help foreigners, and more than a dab hand at different languages, with most of the country speaking English, German or French to a very good level, so there is nothing to stop you visiting this wonderfully friendly and inviting country.
